The Indo-Jewish Meet, establishing relations
The Indo Jewish Meet

About 40 participants from the American Jewish Association and the Indo American Political Action Committee of Greater Houston left aside their busy schedules on June 27, 2007, to attend the Indo-Jewish meet.

In the presence of Honorable Consul General’s from both India and Israel, the event was co-hosted by IAPACGH’s Jagat Kamdar and AJC’s Richard Schechter. “This informal networking event”, asserted Mr. Kamdar “is to further build on the strategic relationship between the two groups as it pertains to both Houston and tri-lateral relationship between India, Israel and the United States”. Over to the dice first, the Indian Consul General, Mr. S. M. Gavai was quick to mention that the two main stable democratic countries on the other side of the world started with the letter ‘I’. He also said that Israel and India have shared a long standing relationship historically and culturally. The Israeli Consul General, Mr. Asher Yarden with a smile said that Indians, Israelis and the Chinese make up for more than half the population in the world. Agreeing with Mr. Gavai he also mentioned the need for stronger ties between the two countries.

An informal platform was thrown open to everyone and discussions were made welcome. Members from both the end responded and stated the need to have more cultural exchange events in the Houston area.  They also responded to how IT is a growing field of interest for business investments, and that the two countries should join heads along with them for better opportunities, for both communities.  Refreshments from both the countries were made available.
