Indo-American Political Action Committee of Greater Houston (IAPAC) hosted a luncheon for the heads of several Indo American organizations with US Congressman Al Green on Saturday February 6, 2010. Over 20 community leaders attended this unique and informal meeting. This was a first of many interactive meetings with elected officials that has been planned by IAPAC through the year.

In brief welcome remark, the immediate past president of IAPAC, Gitesh Desai mentioned about the Congressman’s visit to India and his close association with the Indo American Community of Greater Houston. The Congressman elaborated and emphasized that relationship between the US and India is on a very sound footing and went on to explain in detail various agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) signed by the US President Barak Obama and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last September. He added that during the first year of Obama's presidency, the honor of the first visit by any head of state was given to Prime Minister Singh proves that the US is very serious about further developing bond between two countries. This gesture by the President Obama will always remain a part of history. Then he answered a wide range of questions raised by the community leaders that included current state of economy, healthcare, jobs, immigration, and international terrorism. In closing, he stated that he is looking forward to working closely with the Indo American Community.
